The 2013 NBA Draft is setting up to be an intriguing one and predicting it is proving slightly harder than guessing your local powerball numbers. There are so many possibilities here and nothing looks to be a sure thing. Typically the first few picks can be predicted with some accuracy; however, this season there is no clear cut favorite to have their name called first.
Teams and scouts are evaluating the draft class and reporting that it lacks a true franchise defining player. With this in mind, teams will be drafting more so based on need than pure talent level. With the top five or six picks being fairly interchangeable there could be a lot of surprises as draft day unfolds.
One thing's for certain and that is the draft should be a busy one for trades. Many teams are unwilling to commit guaranteed money to new draftees, particularly those clubs who are up against the salary cap or in the hunt for a big-named free-agent. Once the lottery teams have selected, there figures to be quite a bit of movement as teams are looking to get out of their late-first round picks.
So far it seems that almost every team has been involved in rumours that has their respective draft slot being available. Cleveland has been rumoured to be shopping the top pick, Washington might have a deal with Chicago for the third pick and Dallas will be trading their pick to save cap space. Could we see Paul Pierce traded on draft day or maybe Portland’s LaMarcus Aldridge gets moved? With all the speculation about teams wanting to get out of the draft, there is equal banter about teams looking to acquire more lottery picks.

With all the speculation, rumours and uncertainty; here is eDraft’s NBA Draft big board for the lottery teams.
#1- Cleveland Cavaliers - Alex Len
With all the back and forth we have heard, the trade rumours and smoke screens put up by the Cavaliers it would make the most sense to draft Len here. This Ukrainian born player should feel right at home with the Cavs as both Vitaly Potepenko and Zydrunas Ilgauskas both work in the Cavs front office.
#2- Orlando Magic - Ben McLemore
Negative publicity aside, McLemore is the best pure shooter in this draft and the Magic are in need of just that. If the Magic pull off the expected trade for Eric Bledsoe then it makes the most sense to go with an athletic two-guard to complement him.
#3- Washington Wizards - Otto Porter
The only way I see the Wizards not capitalizing on this home-grown talent is if the Chicago Bulls are seriously offering Luol Deng for this pick along with Emeka Okafor. Porter would be an excellent piece to the rebuilding puzzle and should have no problem playing off the ball and along side John Wall and Bradley Beal
#4- Charlotte Bobcats - Nerlens Noel
If Cleveland selects Len then there is no way that Nerlens Noel slips any further than this. The Bobcats are in need of frontcourt help and regardless of the timetable for a healthy return the Cats will wait it out in hopes that they got the best player in this draft.
#5- Phoenix Suns - Anthony Bennett
The Suns have a thing for Canadians and this one just might surprise them. Bennett is an NBA ready specimen who can score and run the floor with ease. His defense is a question mark and he will need to ramp up the intensity there to really become a well-rounded player.
#6- New Orleans Pelicans - Trey Burke
The Pelicans seem convinced that they need a new point guard. While I don’t necessarily disagree with this assessment I don’t think they need to grab Burke here. I still think that they will but I would have preferred to see Indiana’s Victor Oladipo have his name called here.
#7- Sacramento Kings - Cody Zeller
The Kings could have their choice of remaining big men as both Zeller and Steven Adams figure to be available here. I think that the Kings will go with the more rounded Zeller to play alongside the disgruntled DeMarcus Cousins.
#8- Detroit Pistons - Victor Oladipo
If by some reason Oladipo is still available here even after being rumoured as a potential top-three pick then the Pistons pretty much have to take him. While point guard may be the priority for the Pistons, Oladipo is too valued to pass up here.
#9- Minnesota Timberwolves - Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
Caldwell-Pope might not be the most talented player left on the board come the number nine spot, but the Timberwolves really need help at the shooting guard position. Caldwell-Pope would give an immediate boost as he certainly isn’t afraid to let the jumpers rain; it is just his accuracy that leaves something to be desired.
#10- Portland Trailblazers - Steven Adams
Admittedly I had the Blazers originally going with Giannis Adetokunbo; however, it does seem more likely that they will grab a center man with their pick. If Zeller is off the board here then Steven Adams should hear his name called.
#11- Philadelphia 76ers - Lucas Nogueria
Philadelphia needs a big man and Nogueria definitely fits the bill. A legit 7’0” who can run, defend and block shots. He needs some developmental work and a program to increase strength and size. Nogueria could develop into a game-changing center in a few years, but it will take at least that to see if this kid can reach his potential.
#12- Oklahoma City Thunder- Gorgui Dieng
Oklahoma should be shopping for a replacement for Kendrick Perkins as it is likely that the Thunder will exercise the amnesty clause on the remaining two years of Perkin’s contract. Dieng might be a reach here at No. 12 but he would be a solid defensive replacement for the soon-to-be-departed Perkins.
#13- Dallas Mavericks - Giannis Adetokunbo
The Mavericks would dearly like to find a willing trade partner to take this pick and potentially Shawn Marion as well off their hands. This would free them from the first-round draftee salary commitment, a $8 million contract and thusly allow for maximum cap room to offer two max-contracts to potential free-agents. Failing any potential trade scenarios the Mavs could draft Adetokunbo and stash him overseas for a year or two and save the salary that way too.
#14- Utah Jazz - CJ McCollum
The Jazz need a point guard badly and McCollum could be available here for them to grab. The Jazz would have to be ecstatic if this is the case as McCollum is a top-ten talent in this draft. Should McCollum not be available here then a reasonable substitute would be Michael Carter-Williams from Syracuse.
#15- Milwaukee Bucks - Shabazz Muhammad
One the hot rumours circulating has the Atlanta Hawks trying to trade up in the draft to snag Muhammad. He has many potential landing spots before the Bucks get to the podium as Sacramento is also rumoured to be be high on him. If he is still available Muhammad would be a nice piece for the Bucks as they will lose both Monta Ellis and J.J. Redick come July 1.
