Despite sitting atop the Eastern Conference with a 30-11 record in prime position to contend for the NBA Finals, the Cleveland Cavaliers have fired coach David Blatt. In his place, Cleveland has promoted Tyronn Lue to be the team's head coach and given him a contract extension.
It's a shocking move given the success Cleveland has had this season despite injuries to Kyrie Irving and others. Blatt will finish with an 83-40 record as the Cavaliers coach. Given his success overseas and with the Cavaliers, he should be able to find another coaching opportunity in the NBA this offseason if he so chooses.
Lue's contract extension is a pretty clear indicator that Lue is the man the front office and ownership wants to assist the team. From a fantasy perspective, values and roles should remain the same, though it's still a possibility that Cleveland explores trading Kevin Love before the trade deadline.
