Hawks top Jayson Tatum-less Celtics, extend home win streak to 13
Jalen Johnson collected 20 points, 12 rebounds and five assists as the Atlanta Hawks extended their home winning streak to 13 games with a 112-102 victory over the Boston Celtics on Monday night.
Atlanta (43-33) received 20 points, 10 rebounds and three assists from Onyeka Okongwu, plus 18 points from Dyson Daniels. The Hawks have won 16 of their past 18 games.
Jaylen Brown led Boston with 29 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists, but he shot 9 of 29 from the field and committed six turnovers. Luka Garza added 20 points and nine boards for the Celtics (50-25), and Payton Pritchard finished with 16 points.
Boston had its three-game winning streak end.
The Celtics played without Jayson Tatum (injury management) and Neemias Queta (sprained thumb). Tatum scored 32 points on Sunday in Boston's 114-99 road victory over the Charlotte Hornets.
Atlanta's Jock Landale was ruled out due to an illness.
It was the second meeting between the teams in the past four days. Boston prevailed 109-102 at home on Friday.
The Celtics shot 57.1% from the field in the first quarter and had a 30-29 lead after 12 minutes. Atlanta scored the first seven points of the second quarter to take a 36-30 lead, but Boston went back in front 42-41 on a Derrick White 3-pointer with 6:04 left in the half. The score was 54-54 at halftime.
Atlanta had the first double-digit lead of the game after a Jonathan Kuminga basket put the Hawks up 79-68 with 4:27 remaining in the third quarter. The Hawks outscored the Celtics 36-22 in the period and had a 90-76 advantage entering the final quarter.
The Hawks had their largest lead, 101-80, following a Zaccharie Risacher 3-pointer with 8:29 to play. Boston responded with a 15-2 run to pull within eight on a 3-pointer by Brown with 2:13 remaining, but Atlanta led by at least eight the rest of the way.
