76ers 100, Knicks 98
Elton Brand had 33 points and 16 rebounds and the Philadelphia 76ers dominated most of the fourth quarter to notch a 100-98 victory over the visiting New York Knicks on Friday.
Andre Iguodala had 18 points and a season-best 16 assists as Philadelphia (23-26) won its third straight game. Brand was 14-of-23 from the field while registering a season-high point total.
Raymond Felton had 26 points and nine assists for New York (25-24). The Knicks had a chance to force overtime but Shawne Williams missed a game-tying attempt in the final seconds.
The 76ers were up 100-92 after Brand’s basket with 1:12 remaining, but back-to-back 3-pointers by New York’s Danilo Gallinari and Williams made it a two-point game with 35.8 seconds left.
Amare Stoudemire scored 21 points for New York, while Gallinari had 18 points and 13 rebounds.
The 76ers outscored the Knicks 27-10 in the fourth quarter prior to New York scoring the final six points.
Philadelphia moved to within two games of second-place New York in the Atlantic Division standings. The two teams face each other again Sunday in New York City.
