Mavericks 106, Suns 91

Dirk Nowitzki finished with 18 points and Jason Terry added 18 and six assists as the Dallas Mavericks shut down the highest scoring team in the NBA in a 106-91 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Friday.

Caron Butler chipped in 17 points while Tyson Chandler and Brendan Haywood combined for 22 rebounds for the Mavericks, who have won 14 of 15.

The Suns got out of the gate fast with 25 points in the first quarter but Dallas clamped down in the second and opened up its offense, scoring on its first four possessions to take the lead. The Mavericks expanded the run to 23-9 in the first seven minutes of the frame to grab control.

Dallas kept it up after the break, pushing the advantage 70-48 midway through the third. Phoenix was held to 17 points in both the second and third quarters as Dallas took an 80-59 edge into the final 12 minutes.

The Suns made a push in the fourth quarter, but could not get the deficit to single digits.

Hakim Warrick scored 13 points for Phoenix, which lost Steve Nash in the first quarter due to a neck stinger.
