Grizzlies 93, Hornets 87
Marc Gasol had 22 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists to lead the Memphis Grizzlies to a 93-87 victory over the host New Orleans Hornets on Wednesday.
Mike Conley had 18 points and 10 assists as Memphis won its fourth consecutive contest.
Jarrett Jack had 27 points and eight assists for New Orleans, which has lost five straight games and 11 of 12.
The Grizzlies let a 14-point, first-quarter lead slip away and suddenly found themselves in a 55-55 tie after New Orleans scored the first seven points of the second half. Gasol broke the tie with a dunk to start a 7-0 run and Memphis eventually led 87-75 points on a 3-pointer by O.J. Mayo with 5:07 remaining.
The Hornets responded with 10 straight points with Jack scoring the final six to pull within two points with 1:28 to play. Mayo responded with a 20-footer with 1:07 remaining and Conley hit two free throws with 24.6 seconds left as Memphis held off the charge.
Mayo scored 16 points while Rudy Gay and Tony Allen scored 12 apiece for the Grizzlies.
Trevor Ariza had 18 points for New Orleans after missing the previous eight games with a groin injury. Jason Smith added 14 points for the Hornets, who again played without guard Eric Gordon (knee).
