Hawks 89, Magic 87 (OT)
Josh Smith had a game-high 23 points and 19 rebounds as the Atlanta Hawks survived a late push by the Orlando Magic to prevail 89-87 in overtime.
With the Magic trailing 78-70, Jameer Nelson went to the basket for consecutive layups, part of a 6-0 run to cut the Atlanta lead to two with 12.2 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.
Nelson went hard to the basket and missed a lay-in with 1.3 seconds remaining, but Dwight Howard was there for the putback slam to tie the game at 78 and force overtime.
Joe Johnson asserted himself in the extra frame with four points and a key assist to Marvin Williams on a 3-pointer for an 88-86 Hawks lead. Johnson finished with 14 points.
After the teams traded free throws to make it 89-87, Jason Richardson and Nelson both missed 3-point attempts with less than 10 seconds left for the Magic.
Howard posted his 21st double-double of the season with 18 points and 18 rebounds.
Williams (13 points) nailed an electrifying shot from halfcourt at the buzzer to give the Hawks a 41-39 lead at the half.
