CELTICS 105, WARRIORS 103: Kevin Garnett hit the game-winning jumper with 5.1 seconds left as visiting Boston fended off undermanned Golden State.
The dagger shot capped a sensational night for Garnett, who finished with 24 points on 11-for-15 shooting. He added seven rebounds and five assists to pace the Celtics (23-19), who improved to 2-1 on their eight-game road trip.
Klay Thompson scored a career-high 26 points for the Warriors (18-22), who were without center Andrew Bogut and swingman Stephen Jackson. The two were acquired n a five-player blockbuster Tuesday that saw scoring leader Monta Ellis shipped to the Milwaukee Bucks.
Golden State clawed back from a fourth-quarter deficit to make a game of it. With Boston clinging to a 103-99 lead, Nate Robinson cut the advantage in half on a driving layup with 1:04 remaining.
Paul Pierce missed a jump shot at the other end, and Robinson connected again to even things with 31 seconds left. After a timeout, Boston got the ball to Garnett, who stroked a long jumper on an assist from Pierce as the shot clock expired.
Robinson had a chance to give Golden State the win, but he misfired on a 3-pointer with three seconds left. The diminutive point guard finished with 20 points and 11 assists in defeat.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Celtics finished with 32 assists on 40 made field goals, led by Rajon Rondo's 14 helpers. ... Robinson was a plus-23 on the night; no other Warriors player finished better than plus-6. ... It isn't known when - or even if - Bogut will play for Golden State this season. The 7-foot Australian suffered a broken ankle Jan. 25 and may not return until the 2012-13 campaign.
