Pau Gasol had 16 points and 13 rebounds and hit two free throws with six seconds remaining to help Los Angeles survive a furious rally by visiting Atlanta and snap a two-game skid.
Xavier Henry had 18 points in his first start for the Lakers, who won for the first time since their season opener despite blowing a 21-point lead. Steve Nash added 13 points and six assists, and Nick Young also scored 13.
Kyle Korver collected 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting and made all six 3-point attempts for the Hawks. Jeff Teague and Paul Millsap each scored 14 points, and Al Horford had 12 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.
Chris Kaman scored six of his 10 points in a 1:04 span in the third quarter to help give the Lakers an 88-76 advantage entering the final period. Atlanta went on a 27-15 run to tie it at 103 with 35 seconds remaining on a jumper by Millsap, but Gasol hit both of his free throws and then blocked Korver’s shot to seal the victory.
The Lakers took control early thanks to a 15-5 first-quarter run and led 62-49 at halftime. Los Angeles’ reserves scored 27 points in the half, led by Young’s nine on 4-of-5 shooting.
