Hawks 101, Wizards 99 (OT)
Al Horford collected 34 points and 15 rebounds and knocked down the game-winning jumper at the buzzer in overtime as Atlanta held off visiting Washington.
Horford got the ball after a timeout at the end of overtime before knocking down a fadeaway from the baseline for the win. Kyle Korver added 16 points and Paul Millsap collected 16 and 11 boards for the Hawks, who became just the third Eastern Conference team with a winning record at 12-11.
Trevor Booker recorded 24 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Wizards, who have dropped three straight. Martell Webster added 15 points while John Wall was held to 13 on 6-of-22 shooting to go along with 11 assists.
Atlanta held an 80-65 edge after Shelvin Mack knocked down a pair of free throws with 8:06 left before Washington took off on an 18-2 run to take the lead on Wall’s jumper just under six minutes later. Horford’s putback gave the Hawks back the lead but Wall came right back down and nailed a 3-pointer to give the Wizards an 86-84 edge with 1:39 to play.
Wall fouled Horford with 5.5 seconds left and the star center knocked down both at the line before Wall missed a shot at the buzzer, forcing overtime. Korver hit a 3-pointer with 1:58 on the clock in the extra session to put Atlanta on top and Jeff Teague traded baskets with Booker on the next two trips before Booker’s layup with 1.8 seconds left knotted it at 99.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Korver went 4-for-8 from beyond the arc, extending his NBA record to 92 straight games with at least one 3-pointer. … Washington F Nene (foot) missed his second straight game and G Bradley Beal (leg) sat for the eighth straight time. … Horford went 15-of-23 from the field after struggling to a season-low seven points in a loss to Oklahoma City on Tuesday.
