Jeff Teague scored a playoff career-high 28 points as visiting Atlanta dominated the second half of Game 1 to steal homecourt advantage in the first-round Eastern Conference series from Indiana.
Paul Millsap scored 25 points and Kyle Korver added 12 for the eighth-seeded Hawks, who outscored the Pacers 30-16 in the third quarter to take control. DeMarre Carroll recorded 12 points and 10 rebounds and was one of five players to knock down at least two 3-pointers for Atlanta.
Paul George collected 24 points and 10 rebounds to lead top-seeded Indiana, which committed 17 turnovers leading to 25 points. Lance Stephenson scored 19 points and George Hill had 12 for the Pacers.
It was tied 50-50 at the half but the Hawks scored the first eight points out of the break and used a 14-0 run later in the third to grab a commanding lead. Teague scored nine points during the surge and Millsap capped it with a three-point play for a 74-58 advantage with 4:07 left in the period, and Atlanta led by as much as 18 before settling for an 80-66 lead heading to the fourth.
Pero Antic hit a 3-pointer to extend the lead back to 18 points with 7:48 left and Millsap’s free throws 88 seconds later made it a 20-point gap. Indiana cut the deficit to eight points in the final minute but the Hawks closed it out at the line.
