John Wall collected 30 points and 12 assists and Marcin Gortat added 20 points and 12 rebounds as visiting Washington held off Orlando.

Paul Pierce scored 16 points for Washington, which had 10 steals among Orlando's 18 turnovers. Nene and Garrett Temple each contributed 12 points as all five starters hit double figures for the Wizards.

Nikola Vucevic posted his second double-double in two games with 23 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Magic. Ben Gordon scored 22 points off the bench while Evan Fournier added 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting and Tobias Harris chipped in 14.

The Wizards broke open a close game by outscoring the Magic 28-15 in the third quarter, as Orlando went 7-for-19 from the floor in the period. Wall nailed a long 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the Wizards to the locker room with a 54-51 halftime lead, and Washington opened the second half with a 15-4 run to stretch the margin to 14.

The Washington lead was as large as 16 before Orlando rattled off a 9-2 spurt to start the fourth, getting a three-point play from Vucevic and a 3-pointer from Gordon during the stretch to get within nine. The Magic cut it to 100-98 with 44 seconds left when Gordon knocked down three free throws, but Wall scored a driving layup at the other end and rebounded Vucevic's miss on the next trip to help seal it.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Magic coach Jacque Vaughn was whistled for a technical foul early in the third quarter. … Orlando's Channing Frye (two points) and Washington's Glen Rice Jr. (five points) made their season debuts after missing their teams' openers because of injuries. … Wall has posted double-doubles in the first two games of the season, averaging 23 points and 11.5 assists.
