Wizards 101, Spurs 93
John Wall led the way with 25 points and eight assists as host Washington snapped a 17-game losing streak to San Antonio.
Kevin Seraphin added 17 points off the bench while Bradley Beal and Paul Pierce scored 13 points apiece for the Wizards. Marcin Gortat and Nene combined for 21 rebounds as Washington dominated the glass 48-34.
Tony Parker scored 14 points and Tim Duncan added 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Spurs, who fell for the second time in six games. Patty Mills went 4-of-6 from 3-point range en route to 12 points off the bench while Danny Green and Tiago Splitter scored 10 apiece for San Antonio.
The Spurs took their first lead of the night on Boris Diaw’s hook shot that made it 76-75 with 9:59 left but the reserves put the Wizards back in front as consecutive baskets by Seraphin, Andre Miller and Kris Humphries left Washington in front 92-87 with 4:41 to play. Rasual Butler’s follow-dunk off Wall’s miss made it 101-90 with 13.2 seconds left as the Wizards put it away.
Wall had 12 points and three assists in the first quarter as Washington took a 31-24 lead at the end of the period and pushed the advantage to 10 points just past the midway point of the second before settling for a 51-48 advantage at the break. An 8-0 burst starting the third quarter gave the Wizards their biggest lead of the night at 59-48 before San Antonio chipped it to 75-72 heading to the fourth.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Wizards last beat the Spurs on Feb. 9 2005, behind 35 points and 11 rebounds from Antawn Jamison. … Washington went 21-of-24 from the free-throw line and 6-of-12 from beyond the arc while the Spurs struggled to 9-of-29 from beyond the arc. … San Antonio F Austin Daye got his second straight start but managed only five points in seven minutes.
