Marc Gasol knocked down the game-winning jumper with 0.1 seconds left to lift visiting Memphis past Houston.
Gasol recorded 21 points, seven rebounds and six assists to help the Grizzlies move 2 1/2 games ahead of the Rockets in the race for the Southwest Division title. Mike Conley added 17 points and six assists while Zach Randolph had 15 points and eight rebounds after a one-game absence for Memphis.
Terrence Jones led the way with 21 points and nine rebounds for the Rockets, who have dropped two straight after winning their previous five. James Harden produced 18 points and 13 assists after serving a one-game suspension while Josh Smith had 16 points and eight boards off the bench for Houston.
Tony Allen and Randolph scored four points apiece as the Grizzlies opened the fourth quarter with a 10-0 run to pull ahead 89-79 and Jeff Green nailed a 3-pointer a short time later to push the margin to 12 with 5:31 left. Jones scored nine points as part of a 16-4 surge to even the score at 100 and set the stage for Gasol's heroics.
Harden, Donatas Motiejunas and Patrick Beverley each connected from beyond the arc during a 9-0 spurt as the Rockets sped ahead 25-13 before settling for a seven-point lead after one quarter. Houston drained seven 3-pointers in the first half to take a 59-54 advantage into intermission before Gasol later sparked an 11-2 burst to put the Grizzlies on top 71-65 midway through the third quarter.
