Dennis Schroder scored a career-high 24 points and matched his season high of 10 assists as Atlanta halted an eight-game losing streak in Los Angeles.
Al Horford added 21 points and five steals for the Hawks, who lost Kyle Korver to a broken nose early in the contest and rested fellow starters Paul Millsap, Jeff Teague and DeMarre Carroll. Shelvin Mack added 18 points and Kent Bazemore had 13 points and nine rebounds.
Carlos Boozer and Ryan Kelly scored 13 points apiece for the Lakers, who committed 22 turnovers while losing for the seventh time in eight games. Ed Davis grabbed 13 rebounds and Jordan Clarkson added 10 points, eight rebounds and six assists.
Mack drained a 3-pointer with 5:58 remaining to give Atlanta an 83-67 lead before the Lakers sprung to life with nine consecutive points. Wesley Johnson’s 3-pointer pulled Los Angeles within 85-83 with 30.1 seconds to play, but Schroder drove for a hoop with 13.9 seconds left and Bazemore hit two free throws with nine seconds remaining to make it a six-point margin as the Hawks held on.
Schroder scored 12 first-half points as Atlanta survived 37.5 percent shooting for a 41-38 lead at the break. The Lakers were within five after Boozer’s hoop with 1:57 left in the third quarter before the Hawks scored the final five to take a 68-58 lead into the fourth quarter.
