The unfortunate injury issues for young Arizona Cardinals running back Andre Ellington continued Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. The team's primary ball carrier pulled up lame early in the second half after putting up 69 yards and a touchdown on 12 attempts.
Reports suggest that Ellington suffered a minor Grade-1 sprain of the PCL and will miss 2-3 weeks.
That's the good news for the Cardinals, as they were fearing the worst during the game Sunday afternoon. With Ellington out of action, veteran Chris Johnson and rookie David Johnson will likely share backfield duties.
Ellington, 26, missed four games due to a hip injury last season. He simply can't be relied on as anything more than a RB3 option moving forward.
As it relates to the younger Johnson, he put up a 55-yard touchdown reception to clinch the team's win over New Orleans. He becomes a solid waiver-wire add and a potential RB2 option down the road.
