Best Fantasy Football Waiver-Wire Adds for Week 5

It’s Week 5, your roster very likely could benefit from from some help, whether it’s just a weekly band aid or a season-long fix. Here’s a look at a few guys that could very well help get things back on track.

Jerick McKinnon - Running Back, Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings finally let McKinnon loose this weekend against the Atlanta Falcons, and the talented rookie responded wonderfully, amassing 135 rushing yards on 18 carries, to finish as the 11th best running back for Week 4, with 16.20 fantasy points. McKinnon is the perfect handcuff for Matt Asiata (finished Week 4 as the second best fantasy ‘back with 31 points) owners, who appears to be the touchdown vultures for the time being in Minnesota. Even if you failed to grab Asiata earlier this season, running backs have been a mess so far, so if you’re in need of a solid RB2 or FLEX option, McKinnon is definitely your answer.

Malcom Floyd - Wide Receiver, San Diego Chargers

If you’ve read my work over the last couple of years, you’re probably scratching your head right now, and asking yourself “Didn’t he say Floyd was too much of a risk to roster?” Yes, I’ve probably said that a million times in the past two years, and with good reason; this guy is as injury prone as they come. That said, Floyd has remained healthy (so far) this season, and has put up respectable numbers. Despite having half the targets and less-than half the receptions as Keenan Allen and Eddie Royal, Floyd has just six fantasy points less than Allen on the season and has two more receiving touchdowns. As long as Floyd can continue to stay healthy, this is a trend that should continue, making him a great WR3 and bye week fill-in option.

Owen Daniels - Tight End, Baltimore Ravens

So Dennis Pitta goes out for the year, the Ravens have a tight end friendly offense and Joe Flacco loves having a reliable TE target, yet Daniels is still only owned in 44 percent of leagues?! Seriously? What is up with you guys? You’re missing out on fantasy gold here. With the ever changing and uncertain tight end landscape, Daniels is a sure fire high-end TE2, low-end TE1 for the remainder of the season. Snap him up now, before everyone else realizes what they’re missing out on.

Darrin Reaves & Chris Ogbonnaya - Running Backs, Carolina Panthers

If you are unfortunate enough to own DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart, Mike Tolbert or Fozzy Whittaker, Reaves, and (to a lesser extent) the newly-signed Ogbonnaya, are an easy solution to your running back woes. Whittaker might be ready to return for Week 5, and Williams isn’t far away from returning either, which means either of these guys are a bit of a risky FLEX play at best, and most definitely short-term solutions only.
