Daily Fantasy Football Busts: Week 4

Building the perfect daily salary cap roster can be a frustrating and arduous process, sometimes taking hours to complete. The stress of second guessing is enough to drive anyone insane. Luckily, I’m here to help. After reviewing this week’s pricing on FanDuel and considering the matchups, here’s a look at five players that you should definitely avoid for a successful weekend.

Tom Brady - Quarterback, New England Patriots ($7,900)

“He’ll bounce back this year.” That’s all we heard all offseason about Brady. After three weeks, I’m ready to conclude that’s not going to happen. That offensive line just isn’t good at protecting him anymore, and the offense has become stale and predictable. After last week’s abysmal performance against the Oakland Raiders, I’m ready to throw in the towel on Brady. At $7,900, he’s the 11th most expensive quarterback, yet he’s averaging just 11 points per game. There are numerous cheaper options, who are all averaging significantly more points each week. Don’t waste your money on a reputation.

Reggie Bush and Joique Bell - Running Backs, Detroit Lions ($7,400/$6,500)

Bell continues to out-touch Bush in a big way, which has stunted Bush’s ability to break off big plays consistently. The New York Jets are allowing just 2.8 yards per carry between the tackles, the second fewest in the league, and no defense is allowing fewer points to opposing running backs. The fact that it’s so hard to nail down who will out-perform the other and be worth your money further makes starting either a bad decision. Plus, there’s plenty of better options at both back’s price points.

Chris Johnson - Running Back, New York Jets ($6,800)

Can we give up on Johnson yet? Much like Brady, Johnson’s ridiculously high price is based solely on is CJ2K reputation. Chris Ivory ($5,800) has outgained Johnson by nearly 70 yards rushing, 30 receiving yards, 2 rushing touchdowns and 15 fantasy points, on two fewer touches! Yet he’s a full $1000 less than Johnson. Ivory is a better play than Bush, Bell and Johnson and offers significant financial flexibility with a price tag like that.

Torrey Smith - Wide Receiver, Baltimore Ravens ($5,000)

Sometimes finding the perfect bargain-bin player to round out your financially-constricted roster can be tough. They may seem insignificant, but a lot of times roster fillers can make the difference between a close win or defeat. If you’re trying to win (and why wouldn’t you be?) you should avoid Smith at all costs. He’s currently averaging two catches for less than 30 yards on the season and seems to no longer be a factor in the Ravens’ offense. There’s plenty of better options in Smith’s general price range, try looking there instead.
