The final weeks of an NFL season present opportunities for young players on sub-.500 teams to step up in expanded roles and make impressions for the future. On Sunday, Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin will receive that opportunity with DeSean Jackson out.
ESPN's Jenna Laine reported Godwin will start opposite Mike Evans in Week 16 against the Carolina Panthers. It gives the 21-year-old, Tampa Bay's third-round pick in 2017, another chance to make impressions for future fantasy owners and to potentially grab more eyes and recognition heading into the offseason.
In his lone start previously this season, Godwin played a substantial role. Against the New York Jets on Nov. 12, Godwin hauled in five of 10 targets for 68 yards and turned in a 20-yard reception. At 6'1" with 4.42-speed, Godwin flashed plenty of natural talent to pair with good size and athleticism. Now he'll face a Panthers' defense that ranks 18th in Football Outsiders' DVOA against No.2 wide receivers. Furthermore, Carolina's defense is in a rapid decline statistically since Week 11 and the overall matchups have gotten more positive for opposing wide receivers.
While Godwin isn't someone to trust in fantasy championships for owners in season-long leagues, he is a value WR3 in DFS. On FanDuel, Godwin comes in at $4,500 on the main slate. Meanwhile, the rookie receiver costs just $3K on DraftKings. Be sure to get some shares of the young receiver in your DFS lineups this week.
