Houston Texans Have a Potential Quarterback Controversy

With his team getting absolutely destroyed by the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien made the decision to pull a quarterback in Brian Hoyer  he named the team's starter less than a month ago.

It's not hard to understand why. Hoyer, a free-agent signing from the Cleveland Browns, completed just 18-of-34 passes before being pulled midway through the fourth quarter with Houston down 27-9.

After the game, O'Brien wouldn't commit to Hoyer as the team's starter for next week's outing against the Carolina Panthers:

"I just got off the field. [I have] no idea," O'Brien said after being asked about next week's starter, via ESPN. "We'll review the film and we will find out once we head into next week."

Ryan Mallett replaced Hoyer under center and led the Texans to two scoring drives to make the final tally closer than the game actually was. Overall, Mallett completed 8-of-13 passes for 98 yards with a touchdown.

As it relates to Hoyer, there shouldn't be much confidence in him retaining the starting job over the long term. Including his final six appearances with the Browns last season, Hoyer is completing just over 50 percent of his passes with three touchdowns and 10 interceptions in his last seven games.

No matter who O'Brien chooses to start next week, neither is a viable fantasy option in standard leagues or DFS contests. Simply put, this position is a dead end for those looking at value from the quarterback position.
