San Francisco 49ers Announce Blaine Gabbert will Remain Team's Starting QB

Fresh off earning a win in his first start as a member of the San Francisco 49ers, Blaine Gabbert will remain the team's starter over Colin Kaepernick when it takes on the Seattle Seahawks following its bye this upcoming week.

The comes mere hours after 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula indicated that he had not made a decision on who would start for the three-win team.

Gabbert, a former top-10 pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars, was semi-impressive in San Francisco's 17-16 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. He completed 15-of-25 passes for 185 yards with two touchdowns and two picks — one of which came on a horrendous dropped pass by Jerome Simpson

Though, San Francisco didn't necessarily set the world on fire here. It scored all 17 points in the second quarter, racking up a total of 130 yards in the second half.

It's also important to note that Atlanta's defense played horrendous overall football, failing to get to Gabbert for a single sack on the afternoon.

This all but means Kaepernick's career with the 49ers will be coming to an end here soon. Despite leading the team to the Super Bowl in his first season as the team's starter back in 2012, Kaepernick has fallen out of favor within the organization.

Some of that has to do with struggles on his part, but there's a reason to believe the organization is using him as a scapegoat for failures from the top down after it "mutually" parted ways with Kaepernick's mentor, Jim Harbaugh, following last year.
