The Tampa Bay Buccaneers entered the offseason with a need in the secondary and hope they have addressed it after signing Brent Grimes, who was released by the Miami Dolphins just two days earlier. Grimes deal with Tampa Bay is for two years and worth $16.5 million total.
The 32-year-old cornerback performed poorly last season for the Dolphins, allowing 810 passing yards, the sixth-most amongst cornerbacks according to Pro Football Focus. He added four interceptions as well, but given his contract and poor production, it was an easy decision for Miami to let him go when they needed the cap room.
Grimes will reunite with his former head coach with the Atlanta Falcons, Mike Smith, who is now the Buccaneers' defensive coordinator. A change of scenery and familiarity with an old coach could help Grimes some, but his declining ability with age will likely keep him from ever reaching his best form again.
