Arguably the most important position for any fantasy team is goaltending. Goaltenders alone can earn four points a week for head to head leagues. Goaltenders can change everything for a fantasy team, the same way that a hot goaltender can carry a team through the playoffs. This season there are some goaltending gems, but they are not what most people would expect. The traditional goaltending superpowers like Quick, Lundqvist, Thomas, and whoever happens to be in net for Vancouver have all fallen from the top spot. There are top goaltenders in the NHL this season, but you might not be as familiar with the new names at the top.
Carey Price, Montreal Canadiens
The people of Montreal have been waiting for a long time for their young talent to meet his full potential. For some reason the Canadiens have taken off this season and have shot to the top of the Eastern Conference. The Canadiens are still not scoring a ton of goals, but Price has held down the fort and kept them in every game. Price has always been a good goaltender, but now that his team has stepped up their game expect Price to stay at the top.
Craig Anderson, Ottawa Senators
Craig Anderson was great for the Senators, and showed signs of turning his career around. Many thought that this season Anderson would come back down to earth, but he jumped out of the gates guns a blazing and became the best in the league. Even with the loss of Karlsson, the Senators have continued to win. Anderson has been good enough for long enough to prove that he is the real deal.
Viktor Fasth, Anahiem Mighty Ducks
Unless you are a huge fan of pro hockey in Sweden, you have never heard of Viktor Fasth until the start of the season. The 30 year-old rookie was signed to a one year deal to give the Ducks a solid backup. Anytime that Fasth has been in net this season he has been dominate, and has shot out to a 8-0-0 record. Fasth might have started as a backup, but he has forced his way into the starting spot. Fasth has been a top goaltender in Europe for a few years, and is showing NHL fans how good he is.
