Flames at Stars

The Dallas Stars are holding down the top playoff slot in the Western Conference and the Calgary Flames are one point behind them, but neither team felt compelled to make a major move at Monday's trade deadline. Dallas elected to stand pat as it continues a five-game homestand against the Flames on Tuesday night.

"When you first start talking, you really don't know what the prices are," Stars general manager Jim Nill said of the trade talks. "But we started to see that the prices were very high." Dallas has lost three of its last four overall, but won both meetings this season versus Calgary, including a 6-4 home win on Nov. 24. The Flames made a pair of minor moves, acquiring center Nick Shore from Ottawa and claiming forward Chris Stewart from Minnesota. Calgary owns an 18-8-5 road record as it begins a stretch with five of its next six games away from home.

ABOUT THE FLAMES (32-22-9): Shore barely got time to get settled in Ottawa, playing in only six games after he was part of a four-player deal with Los Angeles, but he is strong on the penalty kill. Stewart provides a physical presence but has scored at least 15 goals five times, including a career-best 28 in 2009-10. "Today was more about tinkering and finding some players that would fit," Calgary general manager Brad Treliving said. "But, ultimately, the group we started the day with is going to determine our fate down the stretch.”

ABOUT THE STARS (35-23-4): Tyler Seguin has scored eight times in February after netting one goal and setting up another in Saturday's 5-3 home loss to Winnipeg and registering a hat trick in Dallas' come-from-behind win over Calgary in November. Seguin leads the Stars with 31 goals and is second with 54 points -- two behind Alexander Radulov, who has scored in back-to-back games. Kari Lehtonen improved to 12-7-2 against Calgary with a 30-save performance on Oct. 27, but he was yanked Saturday after yielding four second-period goals.

OVERTIME

1. The Stars are 0-for-10 on the power play over the past three games.

2. Flames C Sean Monahan, who needs one goal to reach 30, has two tallies and two assists in both meetings versus the Stars this season.

3. Dallas recalled F Jason Dickinson from Texas of the American Hockey League on Monday.
