Sharks at Canucks

The San Jose Sharks continue their quest for first place in the Pacific Division as they conclude their three-game road trip Saturday against the struggling Vancouver Canucks. San Jose pulled within eight points of division-leading Vegas - and moved three ahead of third-place Los Angeles - on Friday as it extended its winning streak to three games with a 7-4 triumph in Calgary.

Evander Kane registered his first career hat trick in the victory, scoring four times after recording one goal in his first seven contests after being acquired from Buffalo at the trade deadline. Vancouver is making a pit stop at home in between three- and four-game road trips as it looks to halt a five-game overall losing streak during which it has scored a total of three goals. The Canucks failed to score during their just-completed three-game trek and have recorded one victory over their last nine contests (1-6-2). Vancouver is in danger of falling into the Western Conference basement as it sits two points ahead of Arizona and also hopes to stay ahead of league-worst Buffalo, which it leads by three points.

ABOUT THE SHARKS (39-23-9): Kane has registered 10 points in eight contests with the team thanks to his career-best performance against Calgary. It was the 26-year-old left wing's fourth multi-goal effort of the season and first since he tallied twice Nov. 7 versus Washington. Kane became the fourth player in franchise history to score four goals in a game, joining Owen Nolan (Dec. 19, 1995), Tomas Hertl (Oct. 8, 2013) and Patrick Marleau (Jan. 23, 2017).

ABOUT THE CANUCKS (25-37-9): Vancouver's stretch of futility has reached 212 minutes, 9 seconds - a span during which it has registered 110 shots. The team is on the verge of surpassing the longest scoring drought in franchise history, a 234:52 stretch that took place in March 2016. The Canucks' current dry spell can in part be attributed to the loss of rookie Brock Boeser, who hasn't played since March 5 and likely is done for the season because of a fracture in his lower back.

OVERTIME

1. Sharks C Chris Tierney notched an assist against the Flames for his 100th NHL point.

2. Vancouver LW Daniel Sedin has recorded only one assist in his last six games after collecting eight goals and 14 points over his previous 10 contests.

3. San Jose RW Joonas Donskoi missed Friday's contest with an upper-body injury, leaving him one game shy of 200 for his career.
