Flames at Kings

The Los Angeles Kings attempt to climb back into a playoff spot in the Western Conference when they host the Calgary Flames on Monday. Los Angeles, which plays its final six games in California - including five at home, trails Anaheim by two points for third place in the Pacific Division and is even with St. Louis for the second wild card but has participated in one more contest than the Blues.

The Kings fell out of third in the Pacific by concluding their 2-1-1 road trip with Saturday's 3-2 setback in Edmonton. Jeff Carter recorded a goal and an assist in the defeat, giving him 13 points in 15 games since returning from an ankle injury that had sidelined him since Oct. 18. Calgary's postseason hopes have all but disappeared thanks to a losing streak that reached five games with Saturday's 5-1 defeat at San Jose. The Flames, who will be without leading goal scorer Sean Monahan for the rest of the campaign due to hip and wrist injuries, are nine points behind the Blues with only six games remaining.

ABOUT THE FLAMES (35-31-10): Monahan, who tops the club with a career high-tying 31 goals, is slated to undergo surgery on his wrist in what the team announced Friday would be the "coming days". The 23-year-old center registered six points in his final eight games before being shut down for the season. Michael Frolik has gone nine contests without landing on the scoresheet and remains three assists shy of 200 for his career.

ABOUT THE KINGS (41-28-7): Tanner Pearson notched a pair of assists against the Oilers to raise his season total to 23, eclipsing the previous career high of 21 that he recorded in 2015-16. Anze Kopitar leads the team in both goals (33) and points (career-high 86) and is one tally away from matching the personal best he registered in 2009-10. The 30-year-old Slovenian failed to notch a point Saturday after producing the 18th four-goal performance in franchise history - and first since Luc Robitaille on Nov. 25, 1993 - in Thursday's 7-1 victory in Colorado.

OVERTIME

1. The Kings are 14-for-14 on the penalty kill over their last five games and 25-for-26 over their past 10 contests.

2. Calgary LW Johnny Gaudreau leads the team with 82 points and is four goals away from 100 for his career.

3. Los Angeles' only remaining road game is a showdown with the Ducks on Friday.
