Capitals at Canadiens

THE STORY: The Washington Capitals would love to jump from their current eighth-place position to third in the Eastern Conference. That will be their goal when they visit the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday. The Capitals are currently second in the Southeast Division, but are in a dogfight with the Florida Panthers, who sit a single point above them and visit the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday. The division winner is guaranteed one of the top three playoff spots. The Canadiens, on the other hand, are struggling to remain relevant in the East. Currently in 12th, the Habs trail the Capitals by eight points. This is the first of four meetings between the two teams this season.
