Flames at Canucks

The Vancouver Canucks' early-season goaltending carousel arguably has been more entertaining to watch than the team itself. After being benched in the first game and remaining on it in the second, Cory Schneider will get the call on Wednesday as Vancouver hosts the Northwest Division-rival Calgary Flames. Roberto Luongo was unable to hold a two-goal lead as the Canucks suffered a 3-2 shootout loss to Calgary's provincial rival - the Edmonton Oilers - on Monday.

The Flames haven't given coach Bob Hartley much to smile about as they have opened their abbreviated season with a pair of home losses. Veteran Miikka Kiprosuff has stumbled out of the blocks, yielding three quick goals in 11 minutes before dropping a 5-4 decision to Anaheim on Monday. The Western Canada rivals each won three games against the other last season, with Mike Cammalleri leading all goal scorers with four.

ABOUT THE FLAMES (0-2-0): Curtis Glencross collected two goals and an assist and Lee Stempniak scored for the second straight game on Monday. Calgary has been productive on the power play, scoring on three of its six opportunities - and that gaudy percentage actually could improve given Vancouver's early troubles on the penalty kill. The Canucks have yielded four goals in just seven short-handed situations.

ABOUT THE CANUCKS (0-1-1): General manager Mike Gillis told the Vancouver Sun there might be a deal in place to ship Luongo out of British Columbia. "We have a potential deal in place with one team that has to do something with another player that they have - and it's not who anybody thinks it is - and so we have to wait." Gillis said, although he did not reveal the identity of the other team. "(But) we've been offered packages that don't fit what our plan is, what we need." Luongo admitted last May he would be willing to waive his no-trade clause if asked.

OVERTIME

1. D Alex Edler is providing bang for Vancouver's buck as he has scored in both games this season. Edler, who had a career-high 49 points in 2011-12, inked a six-year, $30 million contract prior to the season.

2. Cammalleri has yet to register an official shot on goal this season, but his attempt in the second period on Monday found the net after a deflection by Glencross.

3. The Canucks recalled C Jordan Schroeder from Chicago of the American Hockey League on Tuesday. The team sent veteran D Jim Vandermeer to the Wolves.
