Flames at Islanders

The New York Islanders attempt to bounce back from their first regulation loss at their new home when they host the Calgary Flames on Monday. New York began its stay at Barclays Center with a 3-0-1 record before suffering a 5-3 setback against Boston on Friday.

The Islanders regrouped quickly, however, as they pulled out a 3-2 overtime victory in St. Louis the following night after squandering a two-goal lead in the third period. Calgary hopes it can answer the bell just as rapidly, as it visits Brooklyn 24 hours after dropping a 4-1 decision to the New York Rangers in the opener of its three-game road trip. The Flames attempt to get their offense going as they have yet to score more than three goals in a contest this season. The Islanders won both meetings with Calgary last season, posting a pair of 2-1 triumphs.

ABOUT THE FLAMES (2-6-0): Johnny Gaudreau, a finalist for the Calder Trophy last season, has recorded just one goal in his first eight games but is tied for the league lead with nine assists. Center Derek Grant, who was recalled from the American Hockey League a day earlier, went 5-for-9 on faceoffs and posted a minus-1 rating in 10:38 of ice time in his season debut Sunday. Joni Ortio also made his season debut versus the Rangers, turning aside all five shots he faced over almost eight minutes in relief of Jonas Hiller.

ABOUT THE ISLANDERS (5-2-1): After missing out on the Art Ross Trophy by one point last season, John Tavares is making an early charge for the award this campaign. The captain scored a goal in the win over the Blues on Saturday to extend his point streak to six games and has been kept off the scoresheet just once in his eight contests. Tavares has enjoyed facing Calgary in his career, registering five goals and four assists in six contests.
