Lagace gets first win as Golden Knights edge Senators
OTTAWA -- Goalie Maxime Lagace made 24 saves for his first NHL victory and the Vegas Golden Knights scored three power-play goals in a 5-4 decision over the Ottawa Senators Saturday at Canadian Tire Centre.
The win ended a three-game losing streak for the Golden Knights (9-4-0). The Senators (6-3-5) have just one win in their last four.
Erik Haula scored twice for Vegas, while William Karlsson, Alex Tuch and Jonathan Marchessault had the others. Haula added one assist and Marchessault two for three-point games.
Ryan Dzingel, Alex Burrows, Mark Stone and Erik Karlsson replied for the Senators, while Craig Anderson made 29 saves.
The Golden Knights took their first two-goal lead when they went ahead 4-2 at 3:29 of the third period on a Karlsson wraparound. It was his fourth of the season.
Haula padded the cushion with his second of the afternoon and fourth of the season off a nice set up by David Perron with the Golden Knights on a power play at the 6:47 mark.
Just 65 seconds later, Dzingel accepted a pass from Derick Brassard and blasted a shot past Lagace from the slot for his fifth of the season.
Karlsson scored his first of the season with 37 seconds left on a wrist shot through a crowd from the point.
The Golden Knights held a 1-0 lead after one on Tuch's fourth goal, with the visitors on the power play. After he and Karlsson relieved Johnny Oduya of the puck in the corner, Tuch stepped around Fredrik Claesson then tucked a shot past Anderson at the 4:25 mark.
The Golden Knights outshot the Senators 7-5 in the first.
The Senators tied the score 21 seconds into the second period when Stone tipped a Mike Hoffman shot from the right wing boards. The goal was Stone's team-leading ninth.
Haula scored his third at the 4:17 mark, just three seconds after a penalty to the Senators' Zack Smith expired, by firing a shot in an open side after Anderson made a stop off a Marchessault shot from the other.
Burrows knotted it again for the Senators at 7:12. His third of the season, and second in two games, was off a wraparound.
The Golden Knights went ahead for a third time on another power play, as Marchessault was alone to Anderson's right for a shot at a wide open net after the goalie had again made the original stop. It was the fourth of the season for Marchessault.
