Marleau's OT goal lifts Leafs over Bruins
TORONTO -- Patrick Marleau scored at 1:07 of overtime to give the Toronto Maple Leafs a 3-2 comeback victory over the Boston Bruins on Friday night.
David Pastrnak scored on a power play in the third period to give the Bruins the 2-1 lead.
The Maple Leafs (11-7-0) tied the game with one minute left in regulation on the second goal of the game by James van Riemsdyk on a deflection.
Jake Gardiner shot from the right circle and Marleau redirected it for his seventh goal of the season to end the overtime.
Patrice Bergeron also scored for the Bruins (6-5-4) and goaltender Anton Khudobin made 30 saves.
Goaltender Frederik Andersen stopped 33 shots for Toronto.
The Maple Leafs outshot the Bruins 10-8 in a drab first period.
Toronto had the only power play of the opening period and the first two power plays of the second.
Khudobin made a big stop on Toronto's Dominic Moore at 14:28 of the second period when the center was in alone after a giveaway by Boston defenseman Paul Postma.
Bergeron gave Boston a 1-0 at 15:38 of the second period with his fourth goal of the season, a snapper from the right circle on a pass from Brad Marchand.
The Maple Leafs finally scored on their fourth power play of the game when van Riemsdyk jammed in a rebound at 19:44 of the second for his seventh goal of the season to tie the game 1-1.
With Riley Nash serving a slashing penalty, Morgan Rielly shot from the point with Nazem Kadri and van Riemsdyk both taking swipes at the rebound before van Riemsdyk knocked it home.
Toronto had a 24-23 advantage in shots on goal after two periods and had four power plays to one for Boston.
Both teams failed on their first two power plays of the third period.
Boston had its second man advantage of the third at 12:31 when Toronto's Josh Leivo was called for hooking and Pastrnak scored his 10th goal of the season at 14:30.
With Andersen removed for an extra attacker, van Riemsdyk scored his eighth of the season on a defection to tie the game at 2 at 19:00.
