Bishop, Stars blank Islanders
DALLAS -- John Klingberg had a goal and two assists, and Ben Bishop stopped all 14 shots he faced to earn his 20th career shutout in the Dallas Stars' 5-0 win against the New York Islanders Friday at American Airlines Center.
Mattias Janmark, Esa Lindell, who also had an assist, Gemel Smith and Jason Spezza also scored for Dallas (9-7-0, 18 points).
The Islanders (8-6-2, 18 points) were shut out for the second time this season.
Klingberg gave Dallas an early lead when he scored his fourth goal of the season 1:32 into the game during a 4-on-4 situation. Klingberg received a cross-ice pass from Jamie Benn and one-timed the puck into the right side of the net.
Klingberg has 11 points (nine assists) over his past eight games.
Smith made it 2-0 with his first goal of the season 5:02 before the first intermission. Smith drew Jaroslav Halak, who stopped 24 of 29 shots, off his line and maneuvered around him for his fourth career goal.
Lindell then put the Stars ahead by three with his fourth goal of the season with 3:02 remaining in the first period. Lindell's wrist shot from the left circle beat Halak far post, giving Dallas a 3-0 lead after one period, a frame where the Stars outshot the Islanders 13-4.
Dallas added two more in the middle frame to lead 5-0 after 40 minutes. Janmark scored his fourth goal of the season 6:54 into the second period, intercepting a wayward pass by josh Bailey in the slot and burying a quick wrist shot inside the near post.
Spezza then ended his career-long 15-game goal-less streak with his first goal of the season with 4:00 remaining in the second and Dallas on the power play. Spezza scored from the top of the left circle to put the Stars ahead 5-0.
The Islanders lost forward Anthony Beauvillier to an apparent right leg injury after Spezza struck him with a shot with 7:31 remaining in the third period. Beauvillier had to be helped off the ice by the Islanders medical staff.
