Sedin reaches milestone in Canucks' win over Preds
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Daniel Sedin recorded his 1,000th career point Thursday with a game-tying, power-play goal, and rookie Brock Boeser tacked on the game-winning marker less than four minutes later as the Vancouver Canucks rallied to topple the Nashville Predators 5-3 in Bridgestone Arena.
Sedin, whose assist on Loui Eriksson's second-period goal was point number 999, hit his milestone with a wrister from the slot at 10:22 of the third period. Fittingly, twin brother Henrik Sedin drew an assist, his second of the night and his 1,034th career point.
Boeser, who is becoming a prime contender for the Calder Trophy, snapped a 3-3 tie with a wrister from the right post at 14:08. Nikolay Goldobin sent him in with a nice cross-ice pass, and Boeser lifted the puck past goalie Pekka Rinne.
Eriksson tacked on an empty-netter at 19:03 to salt it away. Both Sedins logged assists, giving them three-point nights.
Anders Nilsson (6-2-1) made 29 saves for Vancouver (12-10-4), which finished a six-game road trip with its third win. Rinne (14-4-2) stopped 27 shots for Nashville (15-7-3), which took just its second regulation loss in 12 home games.
After a scoreless first period, the teams combined for five goals in a wild second period. Craig Smith's backhander at 2:42 put the Predators on top, but Boeser responded 12 seconds later with a wrister from the right circle.
Filip Forsberg gave Nashville a 2-1 lead at 4:31 with a power-play goal, his 13th of the year. It marked the Predators' 12th straight home game with a man-advantage tally, a franchise record.
After Eriksson's first goal, Nick Bonino put Nashville back up 3-2 at 16:45 of the period with his fourth goal. Bonino tapped in a backhander on his knees from behind the net.
However, the Predators, who have allowed 14 third-period goals in their last eight games, weren't able to hang on to the lead.
