Byron has hat trick in Canadiens' 10-1 rout of Red Wings
MONTREAL -- Paul Byron scored three goals to help the Montreal Canadiens to their fifth straight win, a 10-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night at Bell Centre that extended the Red Wings' losing streak to seven games (0-4-3).
Price, who has been in goal for the Canadiens' five wins since returning from a lower-body injury, made 21 saves.
Nicolas Deslauriers, Jacob de la Rose, Charles Hudon, Brendan Gallagher, Jordie Benn, Daniel Carr and Andrew Shaw also scored for the Canadiens (13-12-3).
Montreal forward Alex Galchenyuk had four assists.
Petr Mrazek gave up five goals on 25 shots for Detroit (10-12-5) and was replaced by Jimmy Howard, who gave up five goals on nine shots. Andreas Athanasiou scored his sixth goal of the season for the Red Wings.
After scoring more than three goals in a game five times in their first 26 games, the Canadiens scored 16 in their home-and-home series with the Red Wings. The Canadiens defeated the Red Wings 6-3 on Thursday in Detroit.
The Canadiens jumped out early on the Red Wings and never looked back.
Byron made it 1-0 with his seventh goal of the season on a breakaway at 5:22 of the first period and Deslauriers scored his first of the season 32 seconds later.
The Canadiens scored four times in the second period. Byron on a breakaway, de la Rose on a short-handed two-on-one, Hudon on the power play with the goal that chased Mrazek, and Byron with his third of the night to give him the first hat trick of his career.
Gallagher, Benn, Carr and Shaw scored in the third period.
