Kings 3, Thrashers 1
Los Angeles got two goals and an assist from Ryan Smyth in the third period and Jonathan Quick stopped 31 shots as the Kings earned a 3-1 comeback win over the Atlanta Thrashers on Tuesday.
Atlanta’s Chris Thorburn scored his second goal of the season to break the ice 2:26 into the second period when he banged in his own rebound off the rush after picking up a loose puck in the neutral zone.
Los Angeles outshot Atlanta 13-9 through two periods but only had one real scoring chance when Dustin Brown rang a low shot off the post from the top of the crease.
Smyth evened the score 3:53 into the third when tracked down a rebound in front of the net and backhanded it by Chris Mason. Justin Williams and Anze Kopitar drew assists on the play.
Smyth picked up his second point of the night when he assisted on Jarret Stoll’s goal that deflected off a stick at the 6:10 mark. Defenseman Willie Mitchell also assisted on the goal, picking up his first point with the Kings.
Smyth added an empty-netter with 29 seconds remaining.
