Senators 5, Oilers 3
Alex Kovalev scored two goals and added an assist and Brian Elliott made 15 saves to pace visiting Ottawa to a 5-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday afternoon, ending the Senators' 11-game losing streak.
Peter Regin and Milan Michalek also scored and rookie Bobby Butler added his first NHL goal for the Senators, who snapped a 2-2 tie in the third period.
Michalek scored his 14th goal of the season from Butler and Jason Spezza at 8:03 of the third period while Ottawa was on the power play before Kovalev set up Regin on a 2-on-1 for his third of the season to provide some insurance.
Dustin Penner scored his second of the contest on the power play at 17:39 to cut Ottawa's lead to 4-3, but Kovalev scored his 13th of the year into the empty net to put the game away.
Butler opened the scoring for the Senators at 2:51 of the first period before Andrew Cogliano replied for Edmonton less than a minute later. Kovalev restored Ottawa’s lead at the 7:27 mark from Nick Foligno.
Penner then took a pass from Ales Hemsky and ripped his 19th of the campaign from the left face-off dot past Elliott 4:11 into the second session to tie the game 2-2 heading into the third period.
Nikolai Khabibulin made 20 saves in the loss.
