Kings 1, Flyers 0
Defenseman Drew Doughty scored the lone goal of the contest early in the second period and Jonathan Quick turned aside 40 shots for his sixth shutout of the season as the visiting Los Angeles Kings posted a 1-0 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday.
All-Star Anze Kopitar and Wayne Simmonds were credited with the assists for the Kings, who improved to 4-0-2 on their 10-game road trip - the longest in franchise history. Los Angeles won’t return to the Staples Center until Feb. 24, after the Grammy Awards and the NBA All-Star Game.
After 27 combined shots failed to produce a goal in the first period, the Kings needed just one in the second to get on the board. Simmonds forced a turnover behind the Flyers’ net and the puck skipped over to Kopitar to the right of the net.
Kopitar fired a pass in the slot to Doughty, who wristed it past rookie Sergei Bobrovsky just 17 seconds into the period.
The victory moves Los Angeles into a tie for eighth place in the Western Conference with 65 points.
Bobrovsky finished with 24 saves for Philadelphia, which saw its three-game winning streak come to an end. The Flyers also fell at home to Los Angeles for the first time since 2000.
