Patrick Marleau’s goal on a breakaway at 3:53 of overtime came on San Jose’s 50th shot and gave the Sharks a 2-1 victory over the host Nashville Predators on Tuesday.
Pekka Rinne made 48 saves for Nashville (30-19-8), which was outshot 21-7 in the third period and overtime as the Sharks dominated.
San Jose (31-21-6) snapped a two-game losing streak to the Predators and moved into a tie with Nashville in the tight Western Conference.
Antti Niemi made his 13th straight start and had 30 saves for San Jose, which finished its season-long seven-game road trip 5-2-0.
Nashville defenseman Cody Franson scored a power-play goal at 6:48 of the first period and Devin Setoguchi tied it at 9:13 of the second period.
San Jose’s No. 4 power play was 0 for 4 – and is 0 for its last 11 – as Nashville’s No. 2 shorthanded unit has killed its last 16 penalties.
Rinne improved his save percentage to .930, second in the NHL as the Predators allowed a season-high in shots.
Eleven of the last 13 meetings have been decided by one goal.
Defenseman Kent Huskins had two assists for San Jose.
