Flyers 4, Panthers 2
All-Star Daniel Briere collected a goal and two assists and rookie Sergei Bobrovsky turned aside 33 shots as the Philadelphia Flyers continued their dominance on the road with a 4-2 triumph over the Florida Panthers on Wednesday.
Captain Mike Richards and Andreas Nodl scored 65 seconds apart in the first period and James van Riemsdyk netted his second goal in as many days as Eastern Conference-leading Philadelphia (38-14-5) won for the eighth time in its last 10 road contests.
Kris Versteeg set up Richards' tally at 8:36 of the first period for his first point as a member of the Flyers. Versteeg was acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday for a pair of 2011 draft picks.
Briere set up Nodl with a brilliant feed on the doorstep for his 10th tally of the season and later found van Riemsdyk just 5:50 into the second period. Briere added an empty-net goal with 22 seconds remaining in the contest to seal the win.
The offensive outburst was enough for Bobrovsky, who carried a shutout bid into the third period to improve to 23-8-3 on the campaign. Philadelphia is the lone NHL club without a shutout to its credit this season.
Rostislav Olesz netted a power-play goal at 1:40 of the third period, David Booth also tallied and Tomas Vokoun finished with 31 saves for Florida (24-25-7), which has dropped eight of its last 11.
Playing in his 1,000th career NHL game, Panthers left wing Cory Stillman recorded three shots on goal and was a minus-3 for the contest.
