Blues 9, Ducks 3
Chris Stewart scored two goals in his first game in a St. Louis uniform as the new-look Blues overpowered the visiting Anaheim Ducks, 9-3, on Saturday as three of the four goaltenders struggled.
T.J. Oshie and Andy McDonald also had two goals apiece for the Blues, who traded top defensemen Erik Johnson and Eric Brewer in the last two days. Johnson went to the Colorado Avalanche for Stewart to highlight a four-player deal.
The Blues (27-21-9), who led 8-3 after two periods, scored the most goals since their club-record 11 against the Ottawa Senators on Feb. 26, 1994. It was Oshie’s first career two-goal game.
Teemu Selanne tied Joe Sakic for 14th on the all-time list with his 625th career goal for the Ducks (32-24-4), who have lost three straight.
Anaheim goaltender Timo Pielmeier made his NHL debut to start the second period and allowed four goals on 10 shots. He stopped one of two shots in the third. Curtis McElhinney yielded four goals on 11 shots in the first period.
St. Louis starter Ty Conklin, who shut out the Buffalo Sabres on Friday, allowed three goals on five shots in the first period. He was replaced by Ben Bishop, who stopped all 20 shots he faced over the final 43:18 to earn his second career NHL victory.
Both No. 1 goaltenders – St. Louis’ Jaroslav Halak (hand) and Anaheim’s Jonas Hiller (lightheadedness) – are on injured reserve.
