Flames 4, Canadiens 0

Rene Bourque tallied twice and Miikka Kiprusoff turned aside all 39 shots he faced as the Calgary Flames recorded a 4-0 triumph over the visiting Montreal Canadiens on Sunday in the 2011 Heritage Classic at McMahon Stadium.

Alex Tanguay collected a power-play goal and an assist as Calgary (31-22-8) moved from 10th place into a tie for fifth with the Nashville Predators (31-20-8) in the Western Conference standings.

Defenseman Anton Babchuk netted a shorthanded tally and Brendan Morrison notched two assists for the Flames, who won their third straight and 11th in 14 outings (11-1-2).

Kiprusoff recorded the first shutout in an NHL outdoor game by stopping eight shots in the first period, 21 in the second and 10 in the third. The blanking was the 34-year-old Finn's fourth of the season and 38th career.

Bourque opened the scoring by converting a 5-on-3 power play at 8:09 of the first period. Tanguay wired a pass on the doorstep to the 29-year-old Alberta native, who slapped the puck past All-Star Carey Price.

Babchuk doubled the advantage with 7:16 remaining in the second period and Bourque upped the ante just over two minutes later with his 19th of the season. Tanguay capped the scoring midway through the third by slapping the puck home on the doorstep.

Paying homage to Jacques Plante by wearing a tribute mask, Price finished with 33 saves as Montreal (31-22-7) dropped its third straight and sixth of seven contests.
