Blackhawks 3, Penguins 2 (SO)
Patrick Kane scored in the third round of the shootout and Corey Crawford denied all three attempts as the Chicago Blackhawks skated to a 3-2 triumph over the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday in a battle of the last two Stanley Cup championship-winning teams.
Last season's Stanley Cup hero, Kane made a series of moves before tucking the puck past Marc-Andre Fleury. Crawford, who forced Pascal Dupuis wide and denied All-Star defenseman Kris Letang, stopped Tyler Kennedy in the final round to preserve the win.
Bryan Bickell netted a soft goal just 69 seconds into the third period and Patrick Sharp added his 31st goal of the season as Chicago (30-23-6) recorded just its fourth win in 11 outings.
Crawford, who finished with 24 saves, has yielded just 12 goals in his last six contests - although he only has a 3-2-1 mark to show for it.
Matt Cooke returned from a four-game suspension to net a shorthanded goal in the second period and Brett Sterling also tallied for Pittsburgh (36-19-5), which has dropped five of its last seven contests.
Fleury finished with 29 saves to drop to 3-1-2 in six career outings against the Blackhawks.
