Red Wings 2, Wild 1 (SO)
Playing in his 1,000th career game, Todd Bertuzzi scored in the third round of the shootout to seal the win as the visiting Detroit Red Wings recorded a 2-1 triumph over the Minnesota Wild on Sunday.
Jimmy Howard turned aside 25 shots - and made a pair of glove saves in the shootout - to up his career mark to 5-1-1 against the Wild. The 26-year-old New York native has won four and seven of nine overall.
After reigning Selke Trophy winner Pavel Datsyuk scored in the first round, Bertuzzi sealed the win by lifting a shot just under the crossbar.
Captain Nicklas Lidstrom scored 70 seconds into the third period for Detroit (37-16-6), which has won five in a row and improved to 8-0-1 in its last nine games in Minnesota.
Lidstrom opened the scoring early in the third with 12th of the season and first since Dec. 29, but Martin Havlat leveled the contest with his second tally in as many games.
Havlat has 18 goals and a team-leading 50 points for Minnesota (31-22-6), which fell for just the second time in its last seven outings at home.
Niklas Backstrom finished with 38 saves to fall to 1-4-3 in his career against the Red Wings.
