Rangers 4, Hurricanes 3 (SO)
Wojtek Wolski tied the game late in the third period and scored the lone goal of the shootout as the New York Rangers rallied for a 4-3 road triumph over the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday.
Brandon Prust and Ryan Callahan also tallied and All-Star Henrik Lundqvist made 30 saves for the Rangers, who halted a four-game road losing streak and won for just the third time in 11 games overall.
Rangers All-Star defenseman Marc Staal left the game in the third with an apparent head injury after being on the receiving end of a high, hard check by his brother, Carolina captain Eric Staal.
Neither team was able to break through in the first two rounds of the shootout and Lundqvist denied Sergei Samsonov on Carolina's third chance. Wolski then rifled a shot that beat All-Star Cam Ward high to the glove side, earning New York the victory.
Carolina's Jussi Jokinen scored twice early in the third to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead. But Wolski tallied with 1:50 remaining to forge the third tie of the contest.
Defenseman Jay Harrison had a goal and an assist while Ward stopped 43 shots for the Hurricanes, who lost for the eighth time in 11 games.
