Sharks 3, Penguins 2 (OT)
Patrick Marleau scored his second goal of the game at 4:56 of overtime to give the San Jose Sharks their fifth consecutive victory, a 3-2 road triumph over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday.
Rookie Logan Couture recorded a power-play goal and an assist and Antti Niemi made 24 saves for the Sharks, who have won 14 of their last 17 games overall and nine of 12 on the road.
Pittsburgh's Tyler Kennedy netted his second tally of the contest with 50 seconds remaining in the third period to earn his team a point. But the injury-ravaged Penguins lost another player as defenseman Brooks Orpik left the game in the first period after being hit in the hand with a shot and did not return.
After being denied on a breakaway at 3:58 of the extra session, Marleau fired a loose puck in the low slot past All-Star Marc-Andre Fleury to complete his sixth two-goal performance of the season.
Matt Cooke had two assists and Fleury stopped 35 shots for the Penguins, who have lost three in a row and seven of nine. James Neal and defenseman Matt Niskanen made their Pittsburgh debuts after being acquired from the Dallas Stars on Monday.
