Stars 4, Red Wings 1
Mike Ribeiro and All-Star Loui Eriksson scored less than three minutes apart late in the first period and Kari Lehtonen came within 3 1/2 minutes of his first shutout in nearly two years as the Dallas Stars halted a pair of losing streaks with a 4-1 road triumph over the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday.
Krys Barch and Jamie Langenbrunner also tallied for the Stars, who had lost five games in a row overall and seven straight on the road.
Lehtonen was on his way to his 15th career shutout and first since March 10, 2009 while with Atlanta until Tomas Holmstrom scored on a backhander during a power play with 3:31 remaining in the third period. The 27-year old Lehtonen finished with 38 saves.
Ribeiro recorded just his second goal in 14 games at 16:42 of the first and Eriksson scored his 20th of the season while shorthanded with 23 seconds remaining in the period. Barch made it 3-0 nine minutes into the second and Langenbrunner sealed the win with an empty-netter with 1:43 to play in the third.
Jimmy Howard stopped 21 shots for the Red Wings, who have lost four of six games at home and eight of their last 10 overall meetings with the Stars.
