Panthers 2, Thrashers 1 (SO)
Steve Bernier scored in the sixth round of the shootout and Tomas Vokoun turned aside 45 shots as the Florida Panthers skated to a 2-1 road victory over the Atlanta Thrashers on Friday in a battle of Southeast Division rivals.
Marty Reasoner netted his 12th goal of the season at 7:13 of the first period for Florida (26-28-7), which recorded just its fifth win in 18 outings.
After permitting a tally to Blake Wheeler in the second round of the shootout, Vokoun thwarted captain Andrew Ladd, Niclas Bergfors, Nik Antropov and Evander Kane in the extra session before Bernier ended the contest.
With the win, Vokoun snapped a personal three-game skid with his third triumph in 10 games.
Wheeler leveled the contest late in the second period with his 12th goal of the season and first for Atlanta (25-26-11), which has dropped five in a row and nine of 10 (1-7-2).
Ondrej Pavelec stopped six of seven shots before leaving with an undisclosed injury. He was relieved by Chris Mason, who made 25 saves in this one.
