Red Wings 3, Sabres 2 (SO)
Jiri Hudler and Pavel Datsyuk both had regulation goals and shootout tallies as the Detroit Red Wings earned a 3-2 road win over the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday night.
Detroit pulled out its first win in three games after Datsyuk and Hudler both beat Sabres netminder Ryan Miller with backhand attempts in the shootout. Hudler's attempt actually deflected off the crossbar before bouncing off Miller and into the net.
Detroit goalie Joey McDonald preserved the win with saves on Drew Stafford and Thomas Vanek.
Andrej Sekera and Mike Grier had first-period goals as Buffalo wrapped up a 2-3-1 homestand. The Sabres hit the road for seven straight games beginning Tuesday in New York.
After Datsyuk's second-period power-play goal cut the deficit to 2-1, Hudler beat Miller on a deft wrist shot with 58 seconds left in regulation to force extra time.
McDonald's 30-save performance earned him the victory while Miller made 35 saves in defeat.
