Capitals 3, Islanders 2
Alexander Semin snapped a tie with his 22nd goal in the third period as the visiting Washington Capitals came from behind to take down the New York Islanders, 3-2, on Saturday.
Brooks Laich added a goal and an assist and Mike Knuble scored the tying goal for the Capitals, who pulled back to within three points of the Tampa Bay Lightning atop the Southeast Division.
The Islanders jumped to a 2-0 lead when Travis Harmonic’s unassisted slap shot found its way through Michal Neuvirth 33 seconds into the second period. Washington finally got on the board at the 9:44 mark when Laich’s one-timer from the slot beat Al Montoya.
Knuble would tie it at 2-2 early in the third period, taking an assist from Laich and backhanding a shot past Montoya on the low glove side.
Semin connected just over three minutes later, getting an assist from Alex Ovechkin and wristing in a goal from the top of the right face-off circle.
Neuvirth finished with 29 saves as the Capitals improved to 10-0-3 in their last 13 games against New York
