Thrashers 3, Maple Leafs 2 (OT)

Defenseman Ron Hainsey scored at 2:31 of overtime as the Atlanta Thrashers overcame an early two-goal deficit Sunday to post a 3-2 victory over the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs.

Captain Andrew Ladd and Tim Stapleton also tallied and Chris Mason made 22 saves for the Thrashers, who halted a five-game losing streak and won for just the second time in 11 contests (2-7-2).

Nikolai Kulemin and All-Star Phil Kessel scored 2:25 apart in the first period for Toronto, which extended its points streak to seven games (4-0-3). However, the Maple Leafs lost goaltender James Reimer to an apparent head injury in the second period.

Reimer, who stopped all 18 shots he faced, was run into by Atlanta's Evander Kane early in the second but remained in the game after collecting his senses. However, the 22-year-old removed himself with 3:56 left in the session and did not return.

Midway through overtime, Hainsey took a feed from Bryan Little and rifled a shot from the top of the left faceoff circle past Jean-Sebastien Giguere for his second goal of the season. Atlanta improved to 1-0-1 on its five-game homestand.

Kulemin and Kessel gave Toronto a 2-0 lead less than nine minutes into the game and the Maple Leafs stayed in front until the third. Ladd converted a power-play chance 23 seconds into the period and Stapleton buried a rebound with 4:36 remaining to forge a tie.
